FULLY
INTEGRATED SYSTEMS?
Decker Homes specializes in the design and installation of 2 integrated renewable
energy systems which can provide the most efficient space conditioning, hot water,
and power solutions for our homes. Integrated systems are the combination of
two renewable energy technologies, which augment one another in order to maximize
total home performance and energy savings that cannot be realized with individual
systems.
Geothermal heat
pumps; use heat stored in the ground as a natural renewable
source for space heating and cooling, as well as water heating
in a home. High-efficiency geothermal systems are on average
40-60% more efficient than conventional gas and electric furnaces.
In addition, geothermal systems burn no fossil fuels and therefore
produce no harmful air pollutants. Residential geothermal systems
include a ground loop circulating pump, a heat exchange system,
and a compressor. When combined with a solar-electric PV system,
a home can be Net Zero qualified, meaning the home produces
as much power as it consumes.

WHAT
IS A SOLAR ELECTRIC or PV SYSTEM?
Photovoltaic (PV) systems convert sunlight directly to electricity. They
work any time the sun is shining but more electricity is produced when
the sunlight is more intense and strikes the PV modules directly (as
when rays of sunlight are perpendicular to the PV modules). Unlike solar
thermal systems for heating water, PV does not use the sun’s heat
to make electricity. Instead, electrons are freed by the interaction
of sunlight with semiconductor materials in PV cells and captured in
an electric current.

PV allows
you to produce electricity without noise or air pollution – from
a clean, renewable resource. A PV system never runs
out of fuel, and will not increase U.S. oil imports.
Many PV system components are manufactured right here
in the United States. These characteristics could make
PV technology the U.S. energy source of choice for
the 21st century.

Did
you know that on one single day, the sun sends 15,000
times as much energy to the Earth as we consume worldwide
on a daily basis? A free supply that in contrast
to fossil energy sources, such as oil and natural
gas is available in limitless quantities! Solar power
is the energy of the future – safe, clean and
100 % environmentally compatible.

WHAT IS NET METERING?
In more than 35 states, customers who own PV systems can benefit from
laws and regulations that require "net" electric meter reading.
The customer is billed for the net electricity purchased from the utility
over the entire billing period - that is, the difference between the
electricity coming from the power grid and the electricity generated
by the PV system. Through net metering, the customer obtains the full
retail electricity rate - rather than the much lower wholesale rate -
for kilowatt-hours of PV produced electricity sent to the utility power
grid.
WHY
SOLAR ENERGY?
Adding a solar electric system in your home or business is an easy way
to take advantage of regional incentives, invest in your home or business'
value, and help protect the environment by using clean, renewable energy.
Throughout
the world, the combination of the price of electricity,
available free sunshine, and incentives offered by
the local and state governments now position grid-connected
photovoltaic (PV) as an attractive investment for your
new home.

ORIENTATION-
Due south (180-200 Degrees) is the optimal orientation. installing
solar panels in the shade of a tree or building will significantly
decrease solar electric production.
INVERTERS-
Inverters are the "brains" of the solar electric system.
The inverter converts DC electricity to the AC electricity that your
home uses. The inverter monitors the utility grid and controls your
solar systems production, as well as shutting your system down during
a utility black-out.
Most modern
Utility-Tied (also grid-tied) inverters do not utilize
batteries, and are much more efficient than the older
battery type systems that were design for off-grid
homes.
All modern
grid-tied inverters are UL Listed for grid connection
(UL1741). Without the listing individual inverters
are not able to be legally connected to your house's
electrical system, and do not qualify for state rebates.
